Application

Machines for large and heavy parts

Large frames, plates and moulds do not fit on a standard machine. The machine must carry the weight and still reach every surface that needs machining.

What matters most

Check the X, Y and Z travels against the largest part including clamping, the table size and the maximum table load. Compare the load with the weight of the part and its fixture together.

Typical machine choices

Gantry machining centers move the bridge over a fixed table, which suits very large and heavy parts. Large vertical and horizontal machining centers cover heavy parts that are smaller. Large lathes handle long and heavy turned parts.

Installation

Heavy machines need a suitable floor and foundation, lifting access and power supply. Plan transport and positioning early.
