How to choose a palletizing robot

A palletizing robot stacks boxes, bags or crates onto pallets. The right robot depends on the product weight, the pallet size and the speed you need.

Payload

Add the weight of the heaviest product, or of several products if the gripper takes more than one, and the weight of the gripper. Add a safety margin. Use our payload calculator to work this out.

Reach and stacking height

Check the working radius for the farthest pick and place point and for the highest layer you will stack. A taller pallet or a wider footprint needs more reach.

Pallet size and pattern

Check the maximum pallet size in the specification against your pallets. Make sure the robot software can program the stacking patterns you use.

Speed

Compare the maximum number of picks per minute with your line rate. Remember that the stated speed depends on the product and the pattern.

Safety and layout

A risk assessment of the whole cell decides what protection is needed. Plan the conveyor connection, pallet positions and access for operators and forklifts.
